About the course

This free short, self-directed online course has been created by the European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (EuFMD) to to support animal health practitioners in countries that are currently affected by, or at risk of lumpy skin disease (LSD).

This course has been developed by the EuFMD, to assist you in identifying the clinical signs of LSD in cattle. For specific information regarding LSD in Australia, please contact the agricultural department in your state or territory.

What you’ll learn

This e-learning course is intended for animal health practitioners.  It provides an overview of lumpy skin disease including the current and historic global distribution and recommendations for the control of lumpy skin disease.

Course content

After studying this module, you will be able to:

  • describe the clinical signs of LSD in cattle;
  • describe the current and historic global distribution of LSD;
  • give examples of the socioeconomic impacts of LSD;
  • describe the characteristics of the LSD virus;
  • summarise the key features of the epidemiology of LSD;
  • summariskey recommendations for the control and eradication of LSD.

The course is available for free through the EuFMD’s virtual learning platform (vLearning).
