The National Electric Ant Eradication Program (NEAEP) has established a permanent base in Mossman, in a drive to eradicate electric ants from the Douglas Shire.
These invasive pests were also recently found at the Yungaburra Waste Transfer Station, within the Tablelands Regional Council area. The station is one of the NEAEP’s 200 sentinel sites, which are regularly surveyed for electric ants.
Electric ants inflict a painful, venomous sting, kill and displace our native wildlife, and can blind animals.
As 43% of infestations are found by conducting yard checks, it is vital our Queensland communities take part!
